European College of Zoological MedicineCall for De Facto Recognised SpecialistsAs of April 18th 2009, a new ‘umbrella organisation’ the European College of Zoological Medicine was approved by EBVS, incorporating different Specialties, namely:Avian, Small Mammals, Herpetology and Wildlife Population Health. Founding Diplomates have been appointed in each discipline. The objectives of the College shall be: to advance zoological medicine in Europe and increase the competency of those who practice in this field by:
Diplomats recognised de facto Diplomats recognised de facto in a new subspecialty are not required to undertake a residency programme or submit to examination in order to become a diplomate. De facto recognition is possible for up to 5 years after the approval of the relevant Speciality by EBVS (avian has already passed, for other disciplines this period will end April 17th 2014). No exceptions will be made for applications received after this deadline. To be eligible for application one must:
We would be delighted to hear from anyone, whose expertise and qualifications meets the above mentioned requirements for one or more of the specialties “small mammal, herpetology and/or wildlife population health”, who would be willing and able to be involved in the creation of the three new zoological Specialties of this European college. We do want to make sure that everyone realizes that active participation within the college is a requirement to remain a diplomate after recredentialling which will take place every 5 years after admission to the college. One of these requirements is that at least 3 out of 5 annual general meetings will be attended. Active participation in committees will also be required as long as small numbers of diplomates are registered within the college. Please copy the table below and fill it out for your application. All applications should be submitted by using the contact link on the home page of the ECAMS website (www.ecams-online.org). We are currently in the process of setting up an ECZM website (www.eczm.eu). Once this website is active, the ECAMS website will then link you to the ECZM-website. On the ECZM-website updated versions of the ECZM-constitution and information brochures of each specialty will be placed.
